Get inspired by the stars! Create a beautiful night time scene inspired by Canadian Group of Seven artist, Frank Johnston. Frank Johnston was one of the first Canadian artists to depict the experience of flight. It seems natural that this search would extend beyond the skies…and into the constellations of stars.

Become art-astronomers and create this painting by following the step-by-step instructions on how to draw 2 figures and a telescope looking up into the night sky.  Using watercolours and acrylic paint, students can have the option of creating human figures or perhaps create their own other-worldly figures looking into other galaxies and beyond.

Inside this kit, you will find enough supplies to do two paintings:

  • 2 sheets 22.9 x30.5 cm (9x12 in) Watercolour Paper (This paper is slightly smaller than the paper used in our regular classes in order to facilitate safe delivery).
  • 2 watercolours, peach-orange and turquoise-black
  • Black acrylic paint
  • White acrylic paint
  • Wooden skewer for adding stars
  • Artist bio
  • Step-by-step instructions
  • A few examples of star constellations
