Create a beautiful sunset piece inspired by one of Canada’s most famous artists, Tom Thomson.  After his first trip to Algonquin Park in 1912, Thomson fell in love with the beauty and nature and would disappear for days into the wilderness while working on a painting.  Thomson lived on his own in a Cabin on Canoe Lake - often referred to as “Tom Thomson’s Shack” which is now located at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg.

With this kit, students will use a variety of specially mixed paint colours in hues of orange, red and yellow and practice blending colours together to create a sunset background.  This kit also includes the step-by-step instructions on how to draw either a lone figure fishing by his cabin or a cat looking out into the sunset.

Inside this kit, you will find enough supplies to do two paintings:

  • 2 sheets of 22.9 x30.5 cm (9x12 in) watercolour paper (this paper is slightly smaller than the paper used in our regular classes in order to facilitate safe delivery)
  • Peach, raspberry, yellow and black acrylic paint
  • Wooden skewer
  • A long rectangle piece of paper - to use for straight edge
  • Small sponge for blending
  • Artist biography
  • Step-by-step instructions
